1. Yuzuru Hanyu
So good to see him in great form after his injury and come back STRONG with the quad loops! Amazing start for the season!
I like the costume for the SP, I think it matches the theme of the music. The quad loop was of course stunning, too bad about the combo though.
I heard there were intended to be four quads in this program, namely a quad loop, two quad Salchows and one quad toeloop, alongside two triple axels. It is fine that he wanted to challenge, but I think he can try doing three first, because he seemed to have stamina problem here. Besides, the choreography of both programs look very bland and unexciting. But it is still early to tell, the program is obviously still under construction. I look forward to see a perfect version of the programs!
2. Misha Ge
Misha's artistry is unquestionable. His SP is a fantastic showpiece and I love his FS which is skated with great emotions and brilliant choreography. The jumps need just a little refinement. But everything else was just FANTASTIC! Absolutely brilliant!
3. Max Aaaron
He keeps his Nessun Dorma SP, which is a program I don't particularly like, but neither hate. I just wish he could make use of the dramatic "Vinceeeeeero!!!!!" during his step sequence.
But his Lion King was an absolutely different story. The music arrangement is so weird, it is like a mixture of many different pieces of music, which lacks coherence and thus affect his presentation. And the choreography was just...I don't know! It was so confusing!!!
1. Mirai Nagasu
Mirai has overall the best quality here, especially her artistry this season has improved a lot. Her SP is absolutely gorgeous, it made me remind of Mao's Nocturne SP. They were both so beautiful and elegant.
Her free skate os another lovely piece, it is speechlessly beautiful. The emotions and the feelings are just to die for. Absolutely well-deserved victory.
2. Alaine Chatrand
What a comeback! She was really strong in the free! Technically and artistically! So happy for her to have a strong start this season. Keep going Alaine!!
3. Elizabet Tursynbaeva
Keeping the SP was a smart choice, I like that program! She showed a lot of personality and charm in that program, which is really enjoyable!
Some tiny mistakes, but she still managed to give a lovely program. It was a much more lyrical music but she was able to handle it well. It was a very graceful program.
4. Rika Hongo
I honestly think that she deserved a higher PCS score in choreography and interpretation in her SP. Her short program was epic, the choreography and her presentation was stunning. She gave a lot of dynamic movements and facial expression which intensifies the atmosphere while skating to the music of Carmina Burana. I personally think it was an unfair judgement.
I really appreciate the change of the technical layout, it makes the program more interesting to watch. The choreography can be more refined, for example her movements can be more wild when the music is dramatic. This is a nice program overall and I like it. Great job Rika and Akiko!
